Sun Skin Damage
It is always an enjoyable experience to spend a day out in the sun. However, too many sunny days spent outside and unprotected can do harm to your skin. Sun damage can happen to anyone, no matter what age, and is caused by too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays. Typically, those with fairer skin are more susceptible to visible solar damage.
Sun damage first occurs in the form of sunburns, although over time, the changes to the skin become more noticeable. Typically, skin that has experienced gradual, lasting changes becomes wrinkled, loose, and coarse. Essentially, it ages at a very rapid pace. Sometimes, the skin will turn a darker color as well.
Sun Spots
Sun spots, sometimes also known as solar lentigines, are dark brown spots that emerge in areas of the skin that have experienced a large amount of sun exposure, typically on the hands and face. Sun spots can also pop up after too much time spent in a tanning bed. For most people who spend an average amount of time outside, sun spots will not begin occurring until they have reached a certain age.
While sun spots are not life-threatening, they do pose a usually unwanted aesthetic change to one’s epidermis. Over time, these spots can grow larger and darker. Most people who are aware of the fact that treatment is available will have these disfigurations removed.
